You need to know about the beliefs that made the war in Gaza, the preparation of the red heifers, and the rise of Temple Mount extremism in Israeli politics possible in order to understand what’s going on now. Some of those ideas are very old and come from Jewish prophecies, like the vision of the Third Temple in the Book of Ezekiel. It wasn’t just Jewish theology that turned these prophecies into a geopolitical force. It was also the way they were repackaged for Christian audiences and carefully put into American Protestantism through a theological project. The result wasn’t a natural coming together of religions; it was a kind of spiritual psyop, a planned change in Christian beliefs to help Zionist goals. The Scofield Reference Bible is a book that came out in 1909. Its long footnotes changed the way people read the Bible by putting it in a premillennial, dispensational context.
It taught millions of American Christians that prophecy required Jews to return to Israel and rebuild the Temple, and that the Second Coming of Christ couldn’t happen until these things were in place. This was strategic theology meant to connect American religious identity with Israeli destiny.
