New Testament teachings on usury (charging interest, particularly to the poor) focus on love, generosity, and lending without expecting return. Key passages include Luke 6:34-35 (lending without return), Matthew 5:42 (giving to those who ask), and warnings against the love of money (1 Timothy 6:9–10) – Jesus drove merchants and money changers out of the Jerusalem Temple, overturning their tables and chairs. Jesus accused them of turning a house of prayer into a “den of robbers”
