Opinion from Charles – One of the two US Presidential campaigns has accepted the reality of the state of things as they stand now in Ukraine, and has also accepted the inevitable outcome of events there. Prolonging that inevitability is nothing less than a sacrifice of many Ukrainian lives and potentially much worse. Russia’s goal for its military operation in Ukraine was clearly stated two years ago and has not changed. Russia is on track to achieve all four of its goals. When all of this is over, let’s see how many of those goals were achieved.  Those four goals are:

1. Ukraine will not (and never will) become part of the NATO alliance.
2. The right of independence (self-rule) in the “breakaway provinces” (the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk) will be recognized, even if that represents autonomy within the state of Ukraine.
3. Ukraine will never recover Crimea.
4. Zelenskyy’s government (which is a far-right militaristic government) will be out. Ukraine will be demilitarized; and will never host Western weapons targeting sites inside Russia.

Quite simple, the inevitable result of this conflict is: Russia will “win” in Ukraine simply by preventing NATO from expanding into Ukraine.  The western wealth that has been pumped into Ukraine has been a huge waste.  I can’t post this online because it’s not quite public yet, but government officials had a town meeting with all of the residents of Chimney Rock and basically told them the town was being bulldozed, bodies and all and the land was being seized by the federal government they would not be able to move back and basically their homes the ones that were standing were no longer theirs and the federal government owned it all. Them: Our friend owns an Airbnb in Chimney Rock.
