We listened to a group of folks talking at the shopping plaza, they had been advised by the newsagent that the Courier Mail will cost another dollar more ($4), at the end of this month, and they are not going to pay it. Our local News Agent confirmed this also. There was unison in their words: the paper is full of more junk and advertisements than news, the Monday to Thursday issues have limited worthy content and small size not worth the money they pay. One produced a note and read that on Friday 20 June there were 4 pages of classified advertisements and 72 pages of commercial advertisements. On Saturday 21 June there were 4 pages of classified advertisements and 75 pages of commercial advertisements. On Sunday in the Sunday Mail there were 25 pages of commercial advertisements, in the ‘Wellness’ supplement there were 32 pages of commercial advertisements, in ‘Escape’ there were 30 pages of commercial advertisements, in ‘Binge’ there were 2 and in “Body and Soul’ there were 11 pages of commercial advertisements — a total of 73 pages of commercial advertisements. Their unified words were to charge more for advertising and keep the paper cost affordable, or they will not buy it. Think about it. News, true or false is free on the internet.
